About

Blackwood Educational Land Institute is a non-profit, beyond organic teaching farm located on 33-acres in Hempstead, TX. Our farm is on a quest to model teach the indispensable role of restorative, sustainable food systems in all our lives.

We provide programming for youth and adult alike. For youth, we facilitate tours, field trips, overnight stays, a farm school, as well as day and overnight camps. For adults and families, we offer Blackwood Bounty, our CSA program, as well as Mornings in the Country, classes and workshops Farm-to-Table Dinner Experiences, overnight and day retreats, and volunteer opportunities.

Farming Practices

We seek to explore and practice restorative agricultural techniques to inspire and prepare the next wave of farmers and ecologists, while teaching strong work ethic to youth as they learn where their food comes from and the importance of healthy food systems.
